The Event comprises of one race:

A Race around Alderney on Saturday 22nd August 2026

RULES and SAFETY REQUIREMENTS  

The Event will be governed by:- a) the Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024 (RRS) and the prescriptions of the RYA; b) the Notice of Race; c) Sailing instructions and amendments thereto. The Sailing Instructions will be available by 21 August 2026

Minimum Safety Requirements:- ISAF Offshore Special Regulations Category 4 (with liferafts) or in accordance with GYC Sailing instruction number 18.

 

ELIGIBILITY and ENTRY  

The Event is open to yachts that satisfy the Minimum Safety Requirements above. Please advise the Alderney Sailing Club Assistant Secretary (Sail)  as soon as possible of your intention to participate.  Visiting yachts are welcome to take part.

Race – Around Alderney  10.00 is start time. The race will be sailed using the RYA YTC handicapping system. Prizes will be awarded for line honours, first under corrected time and first local boat under corrected time

RISK STATEMENT Rule 4 of the Racing Rules of Sailing states: “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is his or hers alone.” Sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of risk. By taking part in the Event each competitor agrees and acknowledges that: (a) They are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and accept responsibility for the exposure of themselves, their crew and their boat to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the event; (b) They are responsible for the safety of themselves, their crew, their boat and their other property whether afloat or ashore; (c) They accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by their own actions or omissions; (d) Their boat is in good order, equipped to sail in the event and they are fit to participate; (e) The provision of a race management team, patrol boats and other officials and volunteers by the Race Organisers does not relieve them of their own responsibilities; (f) The provision of patrol boat cover is limited to such assistance, particularly in extreme weather conditions, as can be practically provided in the circumstances; (g) It is their responsibility to familiarise themselves with any risks specific to this venue or this event drawn to their attention in any rules and information produced for the venue or event and to attend any safety briefing held for the event. INSURANCE Each yacht shall be insured for third party liability in the sum of at least £3,000,000.

a welcome reception will be held at Alderney Sailing Club at 18.00 and the presentation of prizes held at the Club then.
