LAYING-UP SUPPER – A RESOUNDING SUCCESS

Our annual Laying-Up Supper is always the club’s social highlight of the year -and last Saturday’s event was no exception, enjoyed by all who attended.

This year we welcomed Commodores from the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Clubs of Guernsey and Jersey, as well as Guernsey’s Yacht Club and Jersey’s St. Helier Yacht Club, and our guest speaker – Olympic Gold Medalist Duncan Goodhew.

After welcome drinks in the Anne French Room, guests then headed for the Island Hall where an excellent 3-course dinner was dished up by top chef David Ollivrin of Le Pesked, and his team.

Duncan Goodhew’s lively and highly entertaining talk of Olympic challenges was delivered with great humour and panache and was much applauded by an appreciative audience. Then glasses were raised to the traditional series of toasts – some serious, some hilarious – coming from the starboard and port tables ….and the Top Table!

This year’s awards were presented to
Tess Woodnutt – Winner of the Around the Island Rally,
Stuart and Jane Trought for Long Distance Sailing,
Nigel Vooght for Line Honours (Round the Island Rally). and a surprise award was presented to committee member Ilona Soane-Sands “for going above and beyond for the Alderney Sailing Club”

… and after the formal part of the evening was concluded, it was time to hit the dance floor and bop the night away to the sound of great disco music.

A big thank you goes to MC Ronnie Cairnduff and everybody who helped deck out the Island Hall with a stunning display of spinnakers, and to Rosa and her team for making sure no glass was empty.
