LAYING-UP SUPPER ’24:  WHAT A GREAT NIGHT!

This year’s Alderney Sailing Club Laying-Up Supper – still one of the Island’s glitziest annual events – was attended by 85 guests, including visiting Commodores from Jersey and Guernsey.

Our social highlight of the year took place on Saturday 26 October in the Island Hall  which was decked out for the occasion, projecting a nautical theme.

The evening kicked off with a

Alderney Sailing Club Commodore Nigel Vooght welcomed visiting Channel Island Commodores Martin Priest (Guernsey Yacht Club), and from Jersey Jeremy Swetenham (Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club Jersey) and Jeffery Speller (St. Helier Yacht Club).    Welcome Drinks Reception in the Anne French Room. The bar was run by Rosa and her team who made sure there were no empty glasses.

Master of Ceremony was Ronnie Cairnduff. Guest speaker Ellis Downes, a long-term Alderney Sailing Club member,  delivered a lively and entertaining speech and the Loyal Toast was followed by numerous impromptu toasts, as glasses were raised to various Sailing Club members and causes, and from Port to Starboard.

A delicious 3-course dinner was produced by Le Pesked and served by his delightful young helpers.

Musical entertainment was provided by Guernsey’s popular acoustic duo Sheena and Denis Le Prevost who flew in from Guernsey and who clearly hit the right notes with an invitation to dance into the night.

All in all – a great night was had by all!
