One of the prime objectives of the Alderney Sailing Club is to encourage the island’s young generation to take up sailing – and every year the club organises and hosts a series of junior training courses at different levels.
The courses for are part of the RYA’s “GET ONBOARD” Youth Sailing Scheme and are run by three qualified instructors: Rich Cook and Jess Day from Shuttleworth College, Bedfordshire and Alderney instructor Danni Woodnutt.
This year’s first Junior Training Course – Stage 1 took place last week and no less than 15 juniors (boys and girls) aged 8-10 attended the 5-day course – and all passed with flying colours!
And this week twelve of the youngsters are taking part in Stage 2 of this course which will finish on Friday afternoon.
We would like to thank the Alderney Sports Foundation and Guernsey Youth Commission for their generous support enabling local children to take part in these courses
