ALL AT SEA – SAILING AND MOTORING

June turned out to be a busy month for the Alderney Sailing Club, hosting receptions for two rallies to the island as well as running sailing courses for youngsters every Tuesday.

Saturday 21 June: CA (Cruising Association)  Channel Rally to Alderney

13 sailors taking part in this rally, enjoyed a much deserved drink or two at the Alderney Sailing Club ….as did a happy group of French sailors from Dielette !

Saturday 28 June: Annual JOG Race to Alderney

Around 100 intrepid sailors – all members of the Junior Offshore Group – took part in this challenging race from various start points in the UK,  which 18 out of 27 yachts completed,  gathering that evening for a much deserved welcome drinks and prize presentation at the Alderney Sailing Club.

Race Organiser Martin Banfield commented: “Winds gusting 30 knots from the southwest on the north side of the Channel which reduced significantly as the race progressed. However, several of the boats retired either just before the race start or soon after finding the conditions too much for them.”

Weekend 20 June: ASC Motor Boat Rally 2025 to Dielette and Carteret

The possibility of this rally had been considered since early 2025. The 2023 Rally was cancelled due to sea state – but this summer’s rally finally happened during the weekend of 20 June.

The event was organised by Les Stewart , assisted by Robert Stingemore: five motorboats left Alderney that Friday heading for Dielette, with two more boats joining the flotilla from Guernsey, all gathering at the popular restaurant L’Escale for lunch and later heading for dinner at Le Renard.

The following day two boats returned to Alderney while five of the boats travelled in convoy from Dielette to Carteret, accompanied by dolphins.

En route the crews were kept busy making hats for their skippers using things found on their boats.  This was Tess Woodnutt’s idea and the scene was set for another fun dinner – this time taking place at Le Cap Restaurant whose headwaiter chose the winner – Les Stewart whose hat was created by his crew member Robert .

….and July also looks busy, when the Alderney Sailing Club will be welcoming the crews of three more rallies/races to Alderney:

17 July – Newbury Yacht Club Rally

20 July – St. Helier Yacht Club Rally

26 July – Guernsey Rowing Club Race
