NEW COMMODORE AT THE HELM

At the 2026 AGM (26 February ’26), Ellis Downes was unanimously elected as Commodore of the Alderney Sailing Club, taking over from outgoing Commodore Nigel Vooght .
Ellis commented: “I have been a member of the Alderney Sailing Club for thirty years. I have had a holiday house in Alderney for many years and became a permanent Island resident in March 2025.”
I have experienced dingy sailing and sailing holidays and I also own a motorboat and enjoy exploring the Channel Islands and France. And now that I am semi-retired, I look forward to improving my sailing skills!.”
Working with my brilliant new committee, I look forward to encouraging more water-based activities, increasing our membership and continuing the friendly warm atmosphere of the Sailing Club” .
The 2026 Sailing Club Committee includes Tess Woodnutt (Vice Commodore), Sally Simmons (Rear Commodore), as well as Ros Whittome, Andy Le Clecq, Peter Hamer, Jonathan Martell, Boyd Kelly, Ronnie Cairnduff, Bruce Woodhead, Ilona Soane-Sands and Bev Hope-Smith.
