YOUNGSTERS ARE INVITED TO PUSH THE BOAT OUT AND RULE THE WAVES

The Alderney Sailing Club has over 450 members across the island and beyond, but would particularly like to get more Alderney kids involved in sailing.

A great first introduction to ruling the waves will be the traditional annual Push the Boat Out event which – subject to weather – will take place on Sunday 18 May from 10am to 12 noon at Braye  – after first gathering at the Clubhouse.

“Our club has a fleet of sailing boats and dinghies ready to be launched and the aim of the day is to introduce as many people as possible to experience the thrill of sailing”,explained Vice-Commodore Hugh Harrison who is coordinating this event. “There will be volunteers to help out and all you need to bring with you is a change of clothes and youngsters under the age of eight will require parental supervision. We will also provide buoyancy aids for all activities on the water  “.

The club is also organising a series of summer sailing courses for youngsters  (minimum age 8 and must be able to swim):

Stage 1: July 21–25;  Stage 2: July 28 July–Aug 1; Stage 3: Aug 11–15;  Stage 4 – introduction to racing: Aug 18–22.

The fees is  £120 per course plus membership for resident children (a Bailiwick sponsorship for resident children enables their fees to be reduced), and for non-resident children  £240 plus membership.(The annual membership for under 18’s is just £15).

In addition, the club will be running a series of 2-day Powerboat RYA Training Courses for youngsters( minimum age 12 and must be able to swim. These take place July 26 & 27,  August 2 & 3 and August 16 & 17. The fee for resident children is £165 per course  plus membership.
