FITTING-OUT SUPPER ENDS ON A HIGH NOTE

This year’s Fitting-Out Supper, which marks the start of the sailing season, was a sell-out.

56 Members were treated to a 2-course supper with generous portions of fish & chips dished up by the Braye Chippy, and a delicious strawberry tart created by bar manager Rosa Chadney. The evening’s entertainment was brought by AY REX, Alderney’s popular band who created a great atmosphere as many members sang along to their favourite tunes.

In a short address to all members, Commodore Nigel Vooght stressed that one of the key objectives is to attract young people to join the Alderney Sailing Club. “We want to encourage more youngsters to take up sailing. We have a fleet of sailing boats and dinghies available and membership for under 18’s is only £15 year”. He added: “And to attract parents of young children to come to our clubhouse with their kids, we have transformed our meeting room into a “Kiddy Cabin” where they can play with toys and games.”

The first of this year’s sailing events – subject to weather – will be “Push the Boat Out” on Sunday 4 May when the club also celebrates Milk-a-Punch Sunday with that special magic potion created by Rosa and her team.

And with yacht clubs from the other Channel Islands and the UK planning their rallies to Alderney this summer, 2025 promises to be a busy season of plain sailing. ENDS
