BUSY BANK HOLIDAY SAILING WEEKEND (28-30 April)

The Alderney Sailing Club has enjoyed a very busy start to the season, welcoming the crews of several UK yacht clubs during the first May Bank Holiday weekend.

On Friday 28 April, Brixham Yacht Club sailed in with 14 boats. That evening, over 50 crew members and their commodore Sacha Haga were welcomed by Alderney Sailing Club’s Vice Commodore Ben Turner.

Saturday’s arrival of PCYacht Club was unexpected but equally welcome. Initially the 9-strong crew of WOLVERINE had planned to sail to Guernsey, but in view of the weather forecast opted for a safe haven in Braye Harbour instead.

After a well-deserved drink, their commodore Nick Covell exchanged burgees with Alderney Sailing Club Commodore Nigel Vooght.

Another great gathering took place on Sunday 30 April at the Alderney Sailing Clubhouse, chosen by the  Poole Yacht Racing Association for their prize presentation which was toasted with a tot of Rum.

The prizes were sponsored and awarded by their Captain Rob Gibson and Poole Yacht Club’s Commodore Tracey Lee.

The 40+ crew members loved their stay in Alderney after the long Covid break and left early Monday morning but they vowed they’ll be back!

More yachts are expected during the Coronation weekend (6-8 May), including a rally from St. Helier Yacht Club and they hope to enjoy some of the events taking place in Alderney during their stay.
