Alderney’s new pontoon extension for passenger landing

(Announcement by the States of Alderney 24 February ’23):

Work is underway to provide an extended pontoon at Braye Harbour in time for the 2023 summer season.

This expanded pontoon system will allow the safe and efficient transfer of foot passengers from small commercial vessels onto a purpose-built walk ashore pontoon.

During the 2022 season, a need was identified for improved passenger landing facilities at Braye Harbour.

The new pontoon is to be fixed to the southern end of commercial berth number one where it will join to the base of the existing dinghy pontoon with an access bridge.

An additional tyre fender will be placed on berth number three to mitigate the loss of space caused by the introduction of the pontoon.

The new section has been designed in such a way that it will be possible to lift it from the water when periods of heavy weather are forecasted. Installation is expected in time for the Easter holiday in April. However, updates will be provided should there be delays caused by weather conditions.

The entire pontoon system, including the new section, will be lifted out at the anticipated end of the season in October. ENDS
