Last Sunday 15 August, the Alderney Sailing Club invited anybody interested in sailing – whatever their age, to push the boat and discover the challenges and pleasure of sailing in Alderney waters. The response to this initiative was phenomenal: over 40 wannabe sailors – many of them youngsters – clearly enjoyed their sailing experience and new-found hobby.
Encouraged by this response, the Alderney Sailing Club has decided to organise and host several sailing courses for under 18’s during the month of August, and has called upon experienced instructors from Guernsey and the UK to run the following courses:
RYA – STAGE ONE: 9- 13 August
RYA – STAGE TWO: 16-20 August
RYA – STAGE THREE: 23 to 27 August
The minimum age for this course is 8 years. All participants must have confidence in the water and the ability to swim with confidence.
Thanks to special subsidies provided by the Alderney Sports Foundation and the Guernsey Youth Commission, Alderney youngsters up to the age of 18 will only have to pay £50 per week. However non-local children will need to pay the full amount of £200 per week.
For insurance purposes, anyone who is not yet a member, will be required to join the Alderney Sailing Club. The cost of a Junior Membership for under 18’s is just £15.
